What is Afobazole?

Fabomotizole (brand name Afobazole) is a novel anxiolytic drug with nootropic properties used to treat anxiety and some cardiac disorders. One of the most important advantages of Fabomotizole over benzodiazepines is that it does not form dependence and has fewer side effects.

Afobazole was discovered at the beginning of the 2000s in Russia at the Zakusov Institute of Pharmacology. This institute is also known for its discovery of Noopept, Ladasten (Bromantane), and Selank. Afobazole is a popular anxiolytic that it can be bought over the counter in almost every Russian pharmacy.

What makes Afobazole so special among other anti-anxiety medications? – Afobazole does not have sedative, hypnotic, or muscle relaxant action. Along with that, it does not form dependence in any dosage. Besides that, Afobazole studies in models of local and global ischemia have revealed the neuroprotective effects of the drug.

What is the Afobazole Mechanism of Action?

Afobazole’s mechanism of action is different from that of benzodiazepines. It is not a benzodiazepine receptor site agonist; at the same time, it prevents stress-induced changes in the GABA-benzodiazepine receptor complex and restores its sensitivity to endogenous inhibitory mediators. The drug acts on σ1 receptors, melatonin MT1 and MT3 receptors, and was shown to reversibly inhibit MAO-A.

Afobazole also increases the bioenergetic potential of neurons, and restores and protects nerve cells. Besides, it has some neurotrophic properties, although they are not as pronounced as in Stresam another non-sedative anxiolytic. In studies on rats, Afobazole prevented stress-induced BDNF decrease and it increased NGF and BDNF content in hippocampal HT22 cells culture.

What are Afobazole’s Benefits and Effects?

The benefits of the drug are achieved mostly through the combination of its anxiolytic and light-stimulating effects.

Afobazole reduces:

  • anxiety, bad foreboding, and fears;
  • irritability, tension (fearfulness, tearfulness, anxiety, inability to relax, insomnia, and fear);
  • depressive mood, somatic manifestations of anxiety (muscular, sensory, cardiovascular, respiratory, and gastrointestinal symptoms);
  • autonomic disorders (dry mouth, sweating, and dizziness);
  • cognitive disorders (difficulty concentrating and poor memory), including those arising from stress.

The treatment is usually well-tolerated by the patients. The drug is not habit-forming and does not cause withdrawal after cessation.

What is Afobazole Used for?

Afobazole (Fabomotizole) is used to treat the following symptoms:

  • Generalized anxiety disorder symptoms, e.g. bad feelings, tensions in the body, irritability, tearfulness, fearfulness, etc.;
  • Adjustment disorders;
  • Various somatic (psychophysiological) disorders, e.g. asthma, irritable bowel syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, ischemic heart diseases, etc.;
  • Sleep disorders caused by anxiety;
  • Premenstrual syndrome;
  • Alcohol withdrawal and nicotine withdrawal syndrome;
  • Neurocirculatory dystonia;
  • Neurasthenia;
  • Premenstrual syndrome.

Cheap quick and easy

AFOBAZOLE is the go-to generic anti-anxiety. It will only take the edge off the hard stuff. But for everyday things it can't be beat. If you need the edge taken off the knife of anxiety, this is it. It's not going to deal with major stuff, but sometimes a little is alot. For me it allows me to deal with anxiety instead of removing it. Anxiety is still there, but so much easier to deal with. People say I'm not as "on edge" while on it. The price can't be beat, and the shipping is fast. For cheap quick easy stuff, this is it. If you need something stronger, there are other things out there.

Better than I thought it would be

Since this was one of the least expensive anti-anxiety meds, I figured it would just work just a little bit. I was pleasantly surprised. Bought it for my daughter who has BAD anxiety. For her she says it feels like her anxiety is both there and not there at the same time. So it does help her in a way, which is good. I don't have anxiety, but I do have a lot of stress and worries. For me it makes me just forget I'm stressed or worried about things. I can get things done and deal with things much easier. I'll definitely be ordering again. It doesn't make either of us tired or "spacey" which is nice.

Reset My Emotional State

After years of being kicked around by life, I was in a sorry place mentally - sad, lacking confidence, and quick to hostility. I ordered Afobazole and began taking it 3x per day. I didn't notice any specific feeling from it, but after one week I could tell it was working. I was becoming less emotional than before. I finished the box (20 days total) and I must say that I am very impressed with the results. Afobazole "fixed" me and I feel like a new man.

Overall very nice experience

I personally don't feel very incapacitated when I use it but I much prefer taking this after a long day's work because it puts me in the mood to relax and sleep. For me this supplement pretty much kills any effects from stimulants I'm taking (which I sadly found out yesterday morning when I had work to do). My recommendation would be to try this supplement at night after you have all your work done, then consider the effects it has on you and implement it into a non-busy workday. That being said, I'm a laidback guy. If you have serious anxiety this might calm you down to a regular level.

Mild but side effect free

Noticed a slight calming effect, and may have slept a little better while using. Hard to say as I generally have no problem with anxiety. Never had any negative effects at all, and never felt sedated like some anxiolitics can cause.

Hi Mattikus, thank you for the feedback! Most if our products are intended to normalize brain functions, not to improve them greatly of you are already healthy. Best regards, Andrey

Anxiolytic, maybe a little sedating, works good with stimulants.

First of all, I want to mention that there is a high probability this drug works on Melatonin receptors. When I take Melatonin I notice nightmares as a side effect and wake up groggier than usual (I always wake up groggy no matter how much I sleep). I have been taking Afobazole for around 2 weeks. I didn't take it at the recommended dosage of 3 tablets per day because I never felt a clear acute effect and read online that people managed with 2 tablets per day. I have finished 27 tablets. There are days I only took 1 and a day I tried 3. Never felt diminished or increased effects, except maybe when I took the dosage with some stimulants like Ritalin and coffee (no heart issues or anxiety). I can say it works for social anxiety, but nothing like Phenibut, which is also stimulating. Today at class I could keep a prolonged eye contact with a girl, something I find normally very hard since childhood. To be honest, I actually have a problem to keep an eye contact with males too (I'm 27 soon). I'm going to stop the medication in about a week and see what happens. Then, I will use what I got left. I will update if there is anything interesting.
